September 8, 2009
Meeting was called to order at 7:30 p.m. with the pledge to the flag. Members Bob Cook, Stacy Phillips, Eleanor Kilmer, Bob Steele, and Mike Mocniak were present.
Minutes from the August 3, 2009 meeting were motioned for approval by Mocniak, and seconded by Steele. Motion carried.
Public Comment: Richard Horsch commented that the letter from the MTA that had stated that there was no conflict of interest with Bob Steele remaining on both the Township Board and the Bank Board was correct. Other residents in attendance wanted to comment that the Snover Rd. project is coming along good, and that the County Road Commission is doing a “good job”.
Library Report: Gail Cook was present to report on the Mayville Library. She stated that the State is looking into closing the Michigan Library and making a new one at the University. This would have a great impact on the libraries everywhere, and if you want to show support to leave the library where it is, contact Lansing. The library is also looking into a new computer to use for inventory and for the patrons use.
Planning Commission: Doug Graham was not available, so Bob Cook gave a brief report. They had a meeting on the 17th of August at which time the Blight Committee had submitted the proposed blight ordinance for review, corrections or additions. They will discuss it when they meet again, October the 19th.
Zoning Administrator: Bob had issued a dwelling permit, an addition, and two land verifications, and has three land divisions pending.
Cemetery: There were two burials for the month Phelps and Medley both at the Dayton Center Cemetery. There have also been some comments that the brush on the north end of Dayton Center needs to be cut because it is covering the headstones.
Trustees: Mike had called the MTA about the empty cemetery lots, and wanted to find out what the Township can do with these when there is no family around to claim them. He has not had a response back from them at this time. He did read that there is an upcoming seminar about cemeteries, through the MTA.
Supervisor: Bob had reported that the roads are coming along fine. They are hauling lots of gravel for Snover Rd., and Pattison Rd. was built up south of the tracks. Bob Hunter had also offered to give the Township gravel to repair Shay Lake Rd. east to Hurds Corner Rd. The county will spread the gravel for the Township for this portion of road. Bob also wanted to “Thank” the County Road Commission for their good work performed on the Snover Rd. project. Lastly Bob wanted to mention to the residents to try to keep their business local to help support the community during this economic crisis.
